This page is open from a file, so the site map, 3D view and search cannot load. Upload the folder to Netlify and open mepvirtual.com/e-116_mepvirtual_engineer_copilot, or run it from a local web server.

Ask MEPVirtual.Find it, solve it, see it.

Type what you are working on. The Copilot searches every lab, tab and guide on this site, answers from our reference and Q&A libraries, and runs the calculation with a 2D schematic, a 3D model and a 4D time view.

Every block is a lab. Drag to turn the building, select a block to open it.

Site fault case library

Real-world style faults and findings, each written as problem, effect, root cause, fix and verification, with a link to the lab tab that shows it. No project or client details, just the engineering. Filter by trade, stage or lab, or switch on “Diagnose it first” to test yourself before the answer shows.

Cases marked Illustrative are composites built from common failure patterns. Published incident and report cases summarise public sources. Always verify fixes against current authority rules and manufacturer data.

About this lab: MEP Engineers Copilot

MEP Engineers Copilot

The Copilot is the front door to MEPVirtual. Ask a question in plain words and it finds the right lab, opens the matching tab, answers from more than four thousand engineering questions written for this site, including the HV-516 and MV-517 question banks, and runs the calculation with live inputs.

Diagnose a site fault

Describe a site problem in plain words and the Copilot matches it against a library of 415 MEP, HV and MV, HVAC, ELV, TV and media, fire, plumbing and coordination fault cases, each written as problem, effect, root cause, corrective measures and verification. You can then hand the question plus the matched cases to a free AI account of your choice.

What it can calculate

  • Cable and breaker selection with derating, voltage drop, motor starting, earth conductor and fault withstand
  • Standby generator size, step load and fuel runtime
  • UPS battery capacity, central battery emergency lighting and fire alarm panel batteries
  • CCTV recording storage and disk count
  • Earth rod resistance and rod count to a target
  • Solar PV string length against inverter limits
  • Cable tray width and fill
  • Transformer full load current, HV and LV fault level, peak current and HV protection type

How to read the views

The 2D view is an animated single line. The 3D view is a model of the installation you described. The 4D view adds time: conductor temperature through a working day, a fuel tank emptying, a battery discharging, or storage filling until it overwrites.

Practical engineering example

A 75 kW AHU motor at 400 V with power factor 0.85 and efficiency 0.93 draws about 137 A. On a perforated tray at 45 °C the derating factor is 0.87, so a 50 mm² copper XLPE cable on a 160 A breaker carries the load, with about 1.6 % voltage drop over 60 m.

Developed by Eng. Mannan Maqsood. Verify design outputs against current project requirements and the applicable authority and manufacturer data.

Standards and regions covered

Built around DEWA, ADDC (TAQA Distribution), SEWA, UAE Fire and Life Safety Code (DCD), BS 7671, BS EN standards and AS/NZS 3000. Engineers use it on projects in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, and in Auckland, the rest of New Zealand and Australia. Always confirm the edition your authority or client has adopted before relying on a result.
